Accessibility

Credit information shouldn't be harder to reach because of how you use the web. ScoreTuner aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA on every page and tool.

What we build in

  • Pages are built to work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a link to skip straight to the content.
  • Every tool input has a visible label, and error messages say what's wrong and how to fix it.
  • Tool results are announced to screen readers as they update.
  • Color never carries meaning on its own. Score bands are always named in text, such as "Fair" or "Very Good", next to their color.
  • The score gauge is a picture of information that's also written out in text beside it.
  • Buttons and links are sized for touch, and pages are built to work at 360 pixels wide and when text is enlarged to 200%.
  • Animation is turned off when your device asks for reduced motion, and the site follows your light or dark mode setting.
  • Headings follow a logical order, and tables use proper headers.

We check pages with keyboard-only use and automated testing as we build them. Automated tools miss things, which is why reports from people who use screen readers, magnification, voice control or switch access help us most.

Limits we know about

  • Some wide reference tables scroll sideways inside their box on small screens instead of reflowing.
  • Site search uses an open-source search component that we've styled to match the site. If any part of it doesn't work with your setup, please tell us.
  • Many guides link to PDFs and pages from government agencies, bureaus and scoring companies. We don't control how accessible those are.
