The short version

The free tools run in your browser, and what you type stays on your device unless you save it to an account. An account needs only your email. We don't ask for your Social Security number, we don't sell personal data, and we don't share it for cross-context advertising. You can get a copy of your data or delete it by emailing us.

Who we are

This policy explains how ScoreTuner ("we", "us") handles personal information on scoretuner.com, in the free tools, in free accounts, and in ScoreTuner Plus. It's written for people in the United States, which is where ScoreTuner operates.

What we collect

If you just read guides and use the tools

We don't need to know who you are. Our servers and our analytics record basic technical information about visits: the pages viewed, the page that referred you, your browser and device type, and an approximate location (such as state or country) derived from your IP address. We use this to count visits and learn which pages and tools are useful. What you type into the tools isn't part of it.

If you create a free account

  • Your email address, which is how you sign in and how we contact you about your account.
  • Sign-in records, such as when you signed in, used to keep your account secure.
  • What you choose to save from the tools, such as card nicknames, credit limits, balances, statement dates, inquiry dates, letter dates and scenarios. You decide what to save and what to call it. The tools never need full account numbers, so please don't enter them.

If you subscribe to ScoreTuner Plus

  • Reminder settings: which cards you want reminders for, how many days ahead, your target utilization, and where to send them.
  • Tracker entries: the dates you mailed dispute letters, the dates of items you're counting down, and the scores you record in the score log, with the model and bureau you label them with.
  • Subscription records: your plan, billing dates, and whether each payment went through. Payments are handled by our payment processor, which collects your card details directly. We never see or store your full card number.

If you email us

We keep your message, your email address, and our reply, so we can answer and follow up.

What we never ask for

We don't ask for your Social Security number, your date of birth, your bank or card logins, or copies of your credit reports. ScoreTuner doesn't pull your credit and can't see your reports or scores. Any score you record in the score log is a number you type in yourself.

What the browser tools keep on your device

The free tools do their calculations in your browser. The numbers you enter aren't sent to our servers. Some tools save your most recent entries in your browser's local storage so they're still there when you come back. That copy stays on your device, isn't readable by us, and disappears when you clear your browser's site data for scoretuner.com. If you use a shared computer, clear it when you're done or use a private window.

Tool data reaches our servers only when you're signed in and choose to save it to your account.

Cookies and local storage

  • Necessary cookies and storage keep you signed in and remember security settings. The site can't keep you signed in without them.
  • Local storage for tools holds your recent tool entries on your device, as described above.
  • Analytics help us count visits and see which pages get used. We don't use them to build advertising profiles.

We don't use cookies for cross-context behavioral advertising, meaning ads targeted to you based on your activity across other websites. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; if you block necessary cookies, signing in won't work. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information.

How we use information

  • To run the tools, your account and Plus, including showing you what you saved
  • To send the reminder emails you set up
  • To send account and billing emails, such as security notices, receipts, renewal reminders and cancellation confirmations
  • To answer your messages and requests
  • To keep ScoreTuner secure and prevent abuse
  • To understand, in aggregate, which pages and tools are useful so we can improve them
  • To meet legal, tax and accounting obligations

We don't use your information to make credit decisions, and we don't sell it to lenders, credit repair companies, data brokers or anyone else.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only with:

  • Service providers that help us run ScoreTuner, such as website hosting, our account database, email delivery, our payment processor, and analytics. They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
  • Authorities, when the law requires it, such as in response to a valid subpoena or court order, or when needed to protect someone's safety or our legal rights.
  • A successor, if ScoreTuner is sold or merged. The new owner would have to honor this policy for the information we already hold, and we'd tell account holders before the transfer.
  • Anyone you direct, such as when you print a letter and mail it yourself.

We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We haven't done either.

Reminder emails and opting out

ScoreTuner sends reminder emails only when you set them up in Plus. Each one includes a link to change or turn off your reminders, and you can also change them in your account. Account and billing emails, such as receipts and renewal notices, go to you as long as you have an account, because they cover things you need to know. If we ever send news or product updates, every one will include an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing won't affect your reminders.

Keeping and deleting data

We keep your account information and saved data while your account is open. You can delete saved items yourself at any time. To delete your whole account, use the option in your account settings where it's offered, or email help@scoretuner.com from the address on your account.

When you delete your account, we delete your email address and saved data from our active systems within 30 days. Copies in backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule. We keep subscription and payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, and we keep messages you sent us as long as we need them to handle your request. Aggregate analytics that can't identify you may be kept longer.

Your privacy rights

Several states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and Oregon, give residents rights over their personal information. Some of those laws only apply to businesses above a certain size. We honor the following requests from anyone, wherever you live in the U.S.:

  • Access: learn what personal information we have about you and get a copy, in a format you can take elsewhere
  • Correction: fix information that's wrong
  • Deletion: have us delete your personal information, with the limited exceptions above
  • Opt-out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising: we don't do these, so there's nothing to switch off, but you can still ask and we'll confirm it
  • No discrimination: we won't charge you more or treat you differently for using any of these rights

To make a request, email help@scoretuner.com and tell us what you'd like. We'll confirm your request by writing to the email address on your account, and we respond within 45 days. An authorized agent may make a request for you with your written permission; we may ask you to confirm it directly. If we turn down a request, we'll explain why, and you can appeal by replying to that email. If you're not satisfied with the appeal, you can contact your state attorney general.

Notice for California residents

In the past 12 months, the categories of personal information we may have collected are: identifiers (email address, IP address); commercial information (your Plus subscription and payment status); internet activity (pages viewed and how you use the site); approximate location; and financial information you choose to enter and save, such as credit limits, balances and scores. We collect it from you and from your device, for the purposes listed in how we use information, and we disclose it only to the service providers described in who we share it with. We don't sell or share personal information, we don't use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes that require an opt-out under California law, and we keep information for the periods described in keeping and deleting data.

Children

ScoreTuner is not for anyone under 18, and people under 18 may not create an account or subscribe to Plus. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe someone under 18 has given us information, email help@scoretuner.com and we'll delete it.

Security

Every page and request on ScoreTuner is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Access to account data is limited to the people and service providers who need it to run the service. Keeping tool calculations in your browser means most of what you type never reaches us at all. No system is perfectly secure, though. If a breach affecting your personal information happens, we'll notify you as the law requires.

Changes to this policy

When we update this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new "last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we use information we already have, we'll email account holders before it takes effect.
