Payment history profile characters
Metro 2 payment history profile character J: voluntary surrender
The month the collateral, usually a vehicle, was voluntarily returned to the lender because the payments couldn't continue. It pairs with a voluntary surrender status (95, or 61 once paid). It's a terminal character, so the months after it typically repeat it or reflect the account's later outcome.
How it shows on your report
Usually VS or "Voluntary surrender" in that month's box.
How it affects your score
A severe negative month.
What to check
The surrender month should match the date you returned the vehicle, and the months before it should show the delinquency that led up to it. If you returned a leased car at normal lease end or under the lease's own early-termination terms, a surrender mark is wrong.
