Payment history profile characters
Metro 2 payment history profile character L: charge-off
The month the account was reported as charged off, meaning the lender wrote the balance off as a loss, and typically the months after while it stays in that status. It pairs with a charge-off status (97, or 64 once paid). The debt can still be owed and collected after a charge-off.
How it shows on your report
CH on TransUnion's key, or "Charge-off" or a similar symbol at other bureaus.
How it affects your score
A severe negative month.
What to check
Once a charge-off appears, later months shouldn't show the account as current unless it was genuinely brought current. The charge-off month doesn't restart the seven-year clock, which runs from 180 days after the delinquency began. If the debt was sold, the lender's balance should be $0.
